10/03 Greenham Feeder

Ringed at the Greenham 616 feeder, well I was there with Ian! Just one Blue Tit captured at the feeder and a Bullfinch and Blackbird from Ian's gorse scrub nets. There are birds there, not many and mostly Greenfinch but they are very aware of the nets this season. Not quite sure why. We have move the feeder about 4 metres into a cleared area of scrub. If this was the only feeder we had, we could blame that but the others at Bagnor and Snelsmore are not doing much better.
Just one more session at each after the 15th then the season this year is over; don't think I will bother to do any extras.

On the up side went for a walk over the common this morning (11/03) before the park run arrived. At least four Chiffchaff singing in the fog. Two Lapwing displayed on the Fire Plane Gravel. (there was a pair in the gravel east of Eastovers yesterday), no sign of any Ringed Plover yet. Several other species singing including the first Linnet I have heard this year. On Sandleford Heath a flock of 10+ Redwings and the first reasonable gathering of Lesser Redpoll for me, a flock of 20+ and one of 8+. Only the second sighting of this species I've had so far in 2017.
