Session: 17-Nov-2017 07:40 to
11:30hrs
Headlines: Another session
showing the difference in totals between this winter and last winter and showing the
lack of first calendar year birds in winter 16/17. A very
busy session kept both of us ringing for the whole session. Some
interesting pulli captures: the Great Tits that nested in Mount Hill box A03
seems to have been particularly successful with five of the ten pulli ringed in May recaptured
so far this winter. The box is about 2km away but much further for the birds
that will have travelled along hedgerows and field margins. They probably
roost in the copses and borders at Mount Hill. They may even still roost in their
natal nest box, travelling out each day in search of food. They probably have regular circuit including the
gardens of Bagnor village and other hamlets in the area, visiting our feeder as part of a regular route, returning each evening. Sometimes individuals usually attending this feeder turn up at the Snelsmore feeder the other side of the common near the car park entrance. A look at visit 02 totals for the last 10 years shows that winter 13/14 also had a low capture. A pleasant day once the sun came over the tree line.
