01/12 Bagnor Feeder

Location: Bagnor Feeder
Session: 01-Dec-2017 07:45 to 11:15hrs
Headlines: Not quite as cold as expected, good numbers captured, most rounds kept us busy, a loll mid-session allowed us a walk along to the cress beds. 28, 1st calendar year Blue Tits is more than double the number captured last winter for this visit. As can be seen, from the winter period totals, the capture is at the high end of the last 18 winters; highest count from 1985 to date was 01-Dec-1991 when the capture was 83. A couple of older Blue Tits ringed as pulli is interesting, one fledged from a box less than a KM away and the other came from a box on the margin of the main Snelsmore car park on the far side of the common. I had forgotten that we missed early December visits in 2002/03 and 2010/11, not sure why, probably time or weather reasons. An enjoyable session but I was glad to get back in the warm.
Weather: Sunny, bright, cold, slight ground frost on low ground.
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 12metres, a 6m net each side of the feeders, up from 08:00 to 11:00 hrs.
Lure (feeders): peanuts, black sunflower, fat-balls, niger
