09/03 Greenham Common

Location: Greenham Common Estovers (616) Feeder
Session: 09-Mar-2018 07:30 to 11:25hrs
Headlines: It looks like a rainy weekend so we did this feeder today as it looked to be the best of the three days. Very quiet, can’t work out why, food not going as fast as the other feeders and not many birds waiting in the trees either. Sat for about half an hour yesterday morning watching the feeder; about 10 Greenfinch, 5 Goldfinch max and a few tits was all that turned up also three grey squirrels and four rabbits. A 04-Dec-2014 ringed Long-tailed Tit, is a good recovery. There was quite a lot of human activity nearby that could have affected the capture, if there had been any birds to capture. This visit looks good compared to last year’s equivalent. Just one more visit to each feeder after the 15th March and that’s it!
Weather: cloudy, some sunny periods, cool, calm
Present: JL, IW
Nets: 58metres, 10M,12M,12m around feeders, 12m, 12M in gorse scrub(IW-nets) up from 08:00 to 11:00hrs
Lure (feeder): niger, niger, black sunflower, peanuts, black sunflower.

Recaptures: (05) recent except Long-tailed Tit 3y 146d, Robin 1y 96d

Sightings 30 Species: Greylag Geese and no Canada Geese must be a first! Three Woodlark in song and some vocal sparring; not much else singing, no much at all in fact.
